Become Your Pet’s Health Detective: Part 2 Researching Holistic and Natural Options
Once I get a clear picture of my animals’ health challenge, I start researching all of the various ways I can support their physical well-being and emotional/energetic well-being.
Areas I research for their physical support:
Homeopathic Remedies- I use homeopathic books (for animals) as well as online homeopathic lists for specific conditions to find the best matching remedies. I then energetically test the potential remedies to determine which remedies I will try first.
Supplements- If I have a condition name, I use that along with “natural supplements for ___” and search for options. This website Natural Pet Health and Nutrition Center – The Pet Health and Nutrition Center has lists of recommended supplements by condition which has been very helpful. Once I narrow down the list of potential supplements, I will energetically test for the best alignment for my specific animal.
Oral Bioregulators- After researching or energetically testing organs and glands that are affected and in need of support, I almost always use bioregulators or glandulars. These are safe and help optimize function. I always try to improve their overall health and prevent recurrence, so optimizing affected organs and glands is highly beneficial. With animals, I generally stick to the Nature’s Marvels brand bioregulators Natural Bioregulators - Holistic Support Supplements | Profound Health
Beneficial Foods- Food is medicine, so I research the best foods to improve overall health as well as address any specific symptoms. This can get very in-depth so I prefer to do energetic testing to align the best proteins. I also test for grain/no grain/what type of grain, best vegetables and fruits, raw/cooked/dehydrated/wet/kibble, etc.
In addition, environmental/external impact is also important to consider.
EMF exposure- find ways to reduce exposure
Shampoos, topical applications, sprays- read the labels carefully
Home cleaning products including laundry detergents and fabric softeners- read the labels carefully and find non-toxic options
Outdoor yard maintenance products, pesticides, fertilizers- reduce, eliminate all toxic chemicals and find natural safe alternatives
Once I have addressed the physical aspects, I start looking at their emotional and energetic well-being.
Emotion Code/Body Code (by Dr. Bradley Nelson) to clear trapped emotions and energies
Tuning forks to balance their energetic field- research frequencies that are most beneficial for their symptoms
Bach Flower remedies- choose the best ones to balance their emotions
Animal communication to get their insights
After researching and selecting areas of priority, I create my base protocol that I can manage. I typically start with homeopathics and supplements (max 3-5 at a time). I observe and adjust my protocol along the way. Healing is a process. By staying flexible and willing to take a holistic approach, so much becomes possible. Some situations take less detective work while others require extensive research and trial and error. Here are some examples so you can see what is possible!
Example 1: Spay incontinence for 7 year old Pyrenees mix
Sadie started leaking frequently while napping. Since I know her history well, I quickly figured out she most likely had spay incontinence. I tested some homeopathic remedies for her and came up with 2 remedies. I researched supplements for spay incontinence and found quite a few possibilities. I energetically tested for the best match and chose 3 core supplements. I started all of these but I didn’t see much improvement. So I added an herbal formula and stayed consistent for a few months. We started noticing less leaking over time. Then in a very interesting way, we noticed she’d just leak around full moons! This happened for a few months although she’d go without leaking for the rest of the month. Now after 8 months or so, we haven’t noticed any leaking. I have switched her protocol to a maintenance version once she stopped leaking. If/when she leaks in the future, I will most likely increase her supplement dose. Since the spay surgery removed her female organs, I will continue to give her female glandular supplements.
Example 2: Skin issues…itchy itchy 2.5 year old
We adopted Cooper from a lovely lady who took very good care of him. Cooper is a little Pomchi. But he was an itchy mess. Everything made him itch. The lady gave me all of his vet records so I looked through them carefully. He had all of his shots and flea meds- clearly, the lady loved him and followed all vet recommendations thinking this was the best way to care for her dog. After doing some case history and realizing he probably had too many toxins in his little body (a 150lb dog gets the same shot dose as a 5lb dog…and flea meds can cause all sorts of issues), I set out to work. Skin issues like this take a long time to heal. We had to be super careful what he ate as he was reactive to chicken and a few other core foods. We could no longer apply any topicals, so I manually removed fleas a few times a day. Most natural non-toxic shampoos also made him itch, so I energetically tested for the safest ones. I used homeopathics, skin supplements, and gut healing supplements. It took about 2 years for his whole body to heal. It was a gradual frustrating process in the first few years, but now that he is 12 years old, he has been able to eat anything. We can also use various natural shampoos without issues. Skin issues take a lot of patience and dedication because it’s really hard to watch your dog itch and be uncomfortable. But if you suppress this symptom with medication, it just goes deeper to create more imbalance and disease because we are not addressing the cause.
Example 3: Symptoms of Degenerative Myelopathy in 11 year old Pyrenees
Tomi couldn’t get up one evening and I panicked as my husband wasn’t home. I knew when big dogs can’t get it often times does not end well. I did brute force research all night long. After researching, I realized Tomi had all the symptoms of degenerative myelopathy. In the middle of the night I ordered all herbs and supplements that helped with this condition. I kept searching as I had to find a way to get him up and walking. I stumbled upon a homeopathic book online for dogs that had a remedy with the exact match to everything I saw in my Tomi. Luckily, I had a homeopathic kit which had this remedy. I gave him a dose and in pure exhaustion fell asleep. When I woke up, he was up!!! I had no idea homeopathics could act so fast but this one remedy gave him another full year of life. . It was argentum nitricum. I started with the 30c potency which worked for a good number of months to help him get up. Then when that potency stopped working, I used the 200c potency which kept him going for a while. I believe I used the 1M towards the end of his time with us. It truly felt like a miracle. I am sure the supplements helped as well, but I only continued the homeopathic remedy.
Example 4: 9 Year Old Pyrenees Mix Can’t Get Up…
Saylor started struggling to get up and move. I energetically tested all the supplements I knew that helped with joints and muscles. Nothing was testing as beneficial. I kept researching and looking for options. At the time, I was taking a longevity coaching program (for humans), and attended a peptide/bioregulator webinar. In this webinar they casually mentioned that oral peptide BPC 157 was good for dogs with leg issues. My ears perked up and after making sure this was aligned for Saylor, I ordered it. As soon as we started giving it to him, he started getting up more easily. It worked rather fast for a supplement. He kept improving and started running around, so we stopped supplementing him after about 5 months. Now over 3 years later, he’s still running around! The important thing is to keep looking and researching :)
